We have installed adiabatic, evaporative cooling panels “Smart cooling™” and our product enhanced cooling capacity and substantially reduced electric power consumption for enterprises in the following fields:


FACTORIES

Client: Schneider Electric 170 factories, present in 240 countries. Producer, one of the leading companies of the industry in the world.

Problem/setting:
Management of Schneider Electric has set a goal – to reduce the energy consumed in the Schneider Electric factories. Related to this, in 2010, monitoring of the cooling devices was initiated, since the energy consumed by the cooling devices in particular constitutes a very large portion of the total energy consume.

The goal of the given project, by installing the adiabatic panels from Blue Energy, was to reduce the energy used by the cooling devices by 20%, thus reducing the costs of the energy and CO2 emissions into atmosphere.

Solution:
in 2011, the adiabatic, evaporative cooling panels “Smart Cooling” of Blue energy are being installed on the cooling devices at the plants.

Result:
The data of the consumed energy was compared, following two year monitoring – from the year 2010 before installation of the adiabatic, evaporative cooling panel “Smart Cooling” and the data for the year 2011 after installation of the adiabatic, evaporative cooling panel “Smart Cooling“.

It was observed that by using the adiabatic, evaporative cooling panels of Blue Energy, the energy consumption in the cooling devices was reduced by 31% (see picture below – actual energy readings at the Schneider Electric factory):

The return on investment period (ROI) of the installed Blue Energy devices – 7 months.

Client:
PHILIP MORRIS INTERNATIONAL – leading international tobacco company, with products sold in more than 180 countries.

Problem/objective:
The strategic objective of the Philip Morris International company is to decrease power consumption, which is primarily associated with lowering costs and promoting an environment-friendly business. Therefore, the company were looking for ways to implement this approach and put it into practice.

A substantial part of the total amount of energy consumed by an enterprise is made up of the electricity being consumed by air cooling and conditioning equipment.

Solution:
In 2012, in order to decrease the amounts of energy consumed by cooling equipment and increase the efficiency of such machinery, Philip Morris International had begun fitting the cooling equipment installed at the company’s factories with Blue energy “Smart Cooling™” adiabatic, evaporative cooling panels.

The equipment developed and supplied by Blue Energy International ensures considerable energy economy and yields a marked increase in the efficiency of the cooling equipment employed at our factories.

In order to obtain a specific assessment of the yield provided by the Blue Energy equipment, power consumption was monitored at the factory 24 hours a day, throughout the entire year. The results of the monitoring are provided below.

Philip Morris factory, Intertaba, Italy (Via Fratelli Rosselli, 4 40069 Zola Predosa (BO)). Two cooling units, chillers, were being monitored: York YCAS 0835EB and York YAES 0785SA.

ROI
5 months

Results:
The results have shown that the average increase in the production of cooling capacity by the unit after the installation of “Smart Cooling™” adiabatic, evaporative cooling panels, all the other circumstances remaining constant, is 35%, whereas the average decrease in power consumption is 37%.

Considering such efficiency, the return on investment (ROI) period for the Blue Energy “Smart Cooling™” adiabatic, evaporative cooling panels at PMI factory is up to 5 months (i.e. one season).


HOTELS

Client: Premier Palace 5 star Hotel

Problem:
During the last three years in summer, the outside air temperature reaches +35 to +37°C. Given such air temperature, the cooling devices of the building lack cooling power. At the outside air temperature of +35°C, the cooling devices work with maximum cooling power, resulting in a continuous cycle of compressors and causing overload of the compressors. The load of the electrical networks is also significantly increased, which results in the shortage of electrical power.

The energy consumption of the cooling device TRANE RTAC 217 installed at the hotel during the summer period from May to September is increased by 32%, which significantly increases the operational costs of the hotel.

Total cooling power Q= 3,400 Kw. Cooling devices: 6 chillers TRANE RTAC 217.

Solution: Premier Palace equipped six cooling devices TRANE RTAC 217 with adiabatic, evaporative cooling “Smart Cooling” of Blue energy.

ROI
8 months

Result:
The Technical Director of the Premier Palace stated that after the installation of the with adiabatic, evaporative cooling panels “Smart Cooling“:

  • power of the cooling devices (in the hot period) has increased by 29%;
  • the energy consume has decreased by 24%;
  • cooling devices are operating under regular mode, the operational cycle of the compressors is shortened, the compressors are not overloaded.

Operational principle:
The adiabatic, evaporative cooling panels from of Blue Energy ensured reduction of the incoming air temperature of the cooling devices by 10 – 15°C compared to the outside air temperature.

Such cooling of the air flowing into the cooling device significantly improved the efficiency of the devices TRANE RTAC 217, since energy savings were achieved (the device requires less electrical energy to produce the required cooling power).

The return on investment period (ROI) of the installed Blue Energy devices (adiabatic, evaporative cooling panels) = 8 months.


HALLS


Client: Arena Riga (Ice Arena)
Ice Hockey arena Riga of the Continental ice-hockey league – 13 000 spectator places.

Problem/setting: During the summer when the outside air temperature reaches + 25°C, the cooling devices lack cooling power. The cooling devices are operating with maximum power, resulting in a continuous compressor cycle – the compressors are overloaded and the electrical energy consume is significantly increased. To ensure the ice ring temperature of the Ice Hockey arena, additional cooling power is needed.

Total cooling power Q= 556kw.
Chiller York YCAA, dry cooler Alfa Laval.

Solution:
In order to increase the efficiency of the cooling devices and to reduce the energy consumed in the cooling devices, the engineers and the management of the ice hockey arena made the decision to install the adiabatic, evaporative cooling panels “Smart Cooling” of Blue energy. The Blue Energy devices were installed in 2012.

ROI
9 months

Result:
The chief engineer of the ice hockey arena stated that after installation of the adiabatic, evaporative cooling panels “Smart Cooling“, the heat exchange of the cooling device YORK and the dry cooler Alfa Laval had significantly improved, the chillers are working efficiently event at a critical outside air temperature of +35°C.

The cooling devices are working under regular mode, the operational cycle of the compressors is shortened and the compressors are not overloaded.

Operational principle:
Before the outside air gets into the condenser, the adiabatic, evaporative cooling panels “Smart Cooling” perform pre-cooling of the air. The adiabatic, evaporative cooling panels ensure reduction of the incoming air temperature of the condensers of the cooling devices by 10 – 15°C below to the outside air temperature.
This results in significantly increased efficiency of YORK YCAA – the possibility has been found of producing the required scope of the cooling power, as well as significantly save on electrical energy.


DATA CENTERS

Client: Central office of the Swedish SEB Bank. The complex consists of two buildings, over 10 floors. The total area is 14 340 m2.

Problem/setting:
During the summer the cooling power of the cooling devices when the outside air temperature exceeds + 29°C is insufficient, resulting in the increase of electrical energy consume by 25-33%. The cooling devices are working with maximum power, which causes overload and shorten their lifespan.

Solution:
The cooling devices (2 chillers Airwell) of the client were equipped with the adiabatic, evaporative cooling panels “Smart Cooling” of Blue energy.

ROI
11 months

Result:
The SEB engineering department informed us that after the installation of the adiabatic, evaporative cooling panels “Smart Cooling” of Blue energy, the cooling devices were operating efficiently, even at the critical outside air temperatures. During the hot period, a significant increase of the cooling power and savings of the consumed electrical energy have been achieved. This has been achieved by reducing the temperature of the incoming air of the cooling devices, which is ensured by the adiabatic, evaporative cooling panels of Blue Energy.


OFFICE BUILDINGS

Client: Business centre Barons
The total area is 21 800 m2.

Problem/setting:
In the summer, when outside air temperature reaches + 30°C, the cooling devices lack cooling power. The cooling devices are working with maximum power, resulting in a continuous compressor cycle – the compressors are overloaded and the electrical energy consume is significantly increased. With the devices operating on maximum power, there is a risk of overheating of the devices and the devices wear down quicker.

Solution
The cooling devices YORK YCAS of the office building were equipped with the adiabatic, evaporative cooling panels “Smart Cooling” of Blue energy.

9 months

Result:
After the installation of the adiabatic, evaporative cooling panels “Smart Cooling” of Blue energy, the cooling devices YORK of the client are operating efficiently even at the critical outside air temperatures. During the hot period, a significant increase of the cooling power and savings of the consumed electrical energy has been achieved. This has been achieved by reducing the temperature of the incoming air of the cooling devices, which is ensured by the adiabatic, evaporative cooling panels of Blue Energy.
